Can we delete islamic emails to put them in the Trash folder

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalaamualaikum,

I get a lot of emails from Islamic organizations which include Islamic names and contents from Quran and Hadith. The email program I use is called ThunderBird. It has folders named like Inbox, Sent and Trash. Each time I delete an email it automatically goes to the Trash folder. Same happens for Islamic emails. I feel bad that Islamic content is sitting in that folder called “Trash”. I cannot change the name of that folder. Could you please let me know if this is OK to let Islamic emails go to the Trash folder?

Sometimes I manually drag and move the emails to a folder that I have created and named “Islamic”. But, with so many emails it becomes a hassle. Further, part of my name is Ahmad. So, even regular business emails have my name, which is an Islamic name. So, every email in the Trash folder has my name as well.

I know I may be overly concerned but just wanted to confirm.

Jazâk-Allâh

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

Trash is only the name of the folder which also represents extra things, therefore, to transfer the mentioned emails etc. in it will not be a cause of sin, neither there is any sin in deleting them, however, if you feel it inappropriate due to the relationship with the name then this is the representation of the Taqwa, Reverence, and the Respect in the heart which is a lauded and appreciable action.
