Question on Funds for Iftaar

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Asslamu Alaikum,

The mosque has a fund whereby members contribute monies to facilitate iftar (to break the fast) and dinner after magrib for members during the month of Ramadhan.

Funds collected for one Ramadhan may not be entirely spent but a balance may arise. In the past this sum was bf to the next Ramadhan. Are we treating this properly or should we strive to spend all monies within the Ramadhan it was collected for?

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

Seeing that the purpose of the funds is to host Iftaar and dinner during the month of Ramadhan, the balance that remains, can be brought forward to the other Ramadhan. You do not have to spend all the monies in that particular Ramadhan in which it was collected.

And Allah Knows Best.
