I’m a woman. I don’t know whether I’m praying correctly!

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I’m very confused if I’m praying according to the hanafi rulings correctly or not. Reading books and descriptions are not helping much because it is very hard to understand the descriptions without pictures. I am a sister and none of the books have read helped to point out the differences of prayer among the men and women. I’m really concerned because I want to pray correctly. Please can you help me. Asking other sisters does not help because they do not know clearly themselves and there are a mixture of different Muslims. Perhaps you can recommend me to a video or clear descriptive (with pictures) examples of how to pray. I want to be able to obey

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

The prayer is very simple: a complete description is attached.

As for the differences between how a man and woman pray, these relate to optimality, not validity.

In short:

a) When standing, women place their hands on their chests;

b) In bowing, they bow only slightly, enough for their hands to reach their knees, while keeping arms close to their bodies;

c) In prostration, they keep their body close together, rather than spreading out, with arms on the ground;

d) In the sitting, it is best for them to keep both legs on the right of the body… See attached answer(s).

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz Rabbani.
