I recently was out of town and arranged for my sister to pay for my bills. She paid off the first bill, however, she did not pay attention to the second bill assuming it would be taken care of and since I was unable to pay it off, the bank charged me interest on it. Please advice me on how to deal with this as it is constantly bothering me and I feel regretful. I feel that just repentance would not be enough. Please guide me as to what I can do to repent for my negligence.
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,
If you had the resolve and reasonable surety of paying such a bill on time–as your words clearly indicate–then you aren’t sinful if someone you had trusted did not fulfill your request to pay the bill. It is good to feel remorse, but you weren’t sinful.
