Why you should avoid ‘Salvation of the Soul’

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is the book, ‘salvation of the soul…’ (Translation of a portion of nur al-Idah) reliable? “It is a very bad translation, full of gross errors and mistakes in understanding.” I have already purchased this book and would hate to see it go to waste. Are the errors few or are they re many throughout the book? Is it possible to outline the mistakes made by the author?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

There is hardly a page that does not have multiple errors, many very grave. I had heard this from Ustadha Umm Sahl, Shaykh Nuh Keller’s wife. I didn’t completely believe her at first.

But when I checked for myself, it became apparent that it is a translation that cannot be relied upon to learn one’s fiqh.

For all its poor English, Talimul Haq is far more clear, and may generally be relied upon.

Walaikum assalam,
Faraz Rabbani.
