Respected brother/sister
There are ten valid reasons on account of which one is allowed not to observe the fast. Amongst them, being on a journey is included. (Taaleem Uddin)
Thus if a person is going to be travelling and is regarded as a Shari Musafir (traveller) i.e. he/ she has travelled more than 77km, then they will be excused from fasting.

However, when a musaafir (traveller) decides to stay at a particular place for fifteen or more days then according to Imaam Abu Hanifa (RA), it will no longer be permissible for him/her to miss any fasts because he/she is no longer classified as a musaafir in terms of the Shariah. However if he/she stays over for a period less than fifteen days, the fasts may be missed and qadhaa observed afterwards. (Durrul Mukhtaar)

However, when a musaafir (traveller) decides to stay at a particular place for four days or more then according to Imaam Shafi (RA), it will no longer be permissible for him/her to miss any fasts because he/she is no longer classified as a musaafir in terms of the Shariah. However if he/she stays over for a period less than four days, the fasts may be missed and qadhaa observed afterwards.

It is however better for a traveller to fast if he will not experience any difficulty by it.

And Allah knows best
