Imaam forgetting to make three additional takbeers in Eid Salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If the Imam forgets to say the three additional takbeers in eid Salah in the first or second rakaat, how should he make up for it?

Bismillaah

A: Generally at the time of Eid Salaah, there is a large crowd of people present for the Salaah. In the case where mistakes occur during the Salaah, the fuqaha have written that if the Imaam fears that there will be confusion created among the people, then he should not perform sajda-e-sahw, instead he should complete the Salaah as normal. The sajda-e-sahw will fall off. Hence in the case where the Imaam forgot to recite the three extra takbeers in the first rakaat at the time he completed Surah Faatiha and a Surah, then he should recite the three takbeers and go into ruku. He will not have to repeat the Qiraat. However if he had already went into ruku and then remembered, then in this case he should recite the three takbeers softly in ruku and he will not make sajda-e-sahw at the end of the Salaah. There are various rulings issued in the books of fiqh regarding this mas’alah.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
