Forgetting to say takbeers during 1st Rakah of a Fard Prayer

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalam Alaikum,

While praying 4 rakah Zuhr (Fardh) in Jamaat I forgetfully missed saying the takbeers “Allahu Akbar” while going in Sujood and Ruku. At the end of 1st Rakah I had doubts that I may have missed saying takbeers. But I carried on the remainder of the prayers and finished WITHOUT Sajda Sahw. I confirmed with others after I finished that I missed the takbeers in 1st rakah.

In this situation, what should the musalleen should have done since they knew I did an error in missing the takbeer? And was I correct in continuing the prayers and ending without Sajda Sahw? Do I need to offer a Qadha Prayer for this situation? And if yes do the musalleen also have to offer qadha for this situation?

Jazakallah Khairan.

Takbeer of ruku’a and sajdah is sunnat, therefore if it is missed, sajdah sahw is not required and the salat is correctly executed without “sajdah sahw”. There is no need to offer “qadha” or repeat the prayer.
