Q: My sickly parents are elderly and my father’s salary does not cover household expenses. My sister requires aid in her studies. She is a full time student and can zakaat money be given to her for her studies and do I have to tell her that it is Zakaat?
A: We would discourage you to support her in this respect. The right thing for women is to be living at home. Supporting her in this regards is not something that is desired in the Shariah. Hence, discourage her and if she can do something from home it will be much better.
