Praying together with non mahram men

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Assalamoualaikoum,
I would like to know if it permissible for women in the hanafi madhhab to perform their salah in the same congregation as men in hajj?
I have been taught that women should not pray together with men (not related to them) in the same room. How far is it true? If it is not the case, is hajj an exception then for everyone to perform salah together?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.

It is in itself permitted for women to pray in congregation–during Hajj and at other times–if proper manners are upheld.

What is blameworthy is for a woman to pray with a small number of unrelated men in an enclosed area without genuine need. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz Rabbani
