Is Eating Carnivores Halal or Haram in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: In the Quran 2:173 it says that Allah has “only” forbidden dead animals and pork etc. But it does not say anything about carnivores, which most scholars regard as haram but since it says “only” does that mean that there is a contradiction? Please explain.

Bismillaah

A: The Quraan Shareef is a book which explains the sharee principles of deen. However, the details of these principles are mentioned in the Ahaadith. The command of performing salaah is mentioned in the Quraan Shareef. However, the times of the salaah, number of rakaats in each salaah and the manner in which one will fulfil the obligation of salaah is not mentioned in the Quraan shareef. This is recorded in the Ahaadith. Similarly, is the case of halaal and haraam animals. All these details are recorded in the Ahaadith. Hence, there is no contradiction.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
