Assalamualaikum Moulana,
I would like to know if it is permissible to take vaccinations for new born children and others given that they contain impure substances. All doctors stress that it is required for safety but are we allowed to use impure substances for benefit in Shari’ah?

Answer:
After discussing this issue with a doctor, we have come to the conclusion that the vaccinations for the new born is not as important as it is made to be. Therefore vaccinations that contain Haraam or impure substances should be avoided in this case.
Using medication that contains Haraam or impure substances is only permissible in cases of dire need when there is no other Halaal medication to replace it.
