Can I take Zakat for liver and kidney transplant?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

I am 23 years old. It has been a year since I have been on dialysis. I need to have a liver and kidney transplant otherwise my survival will be uncertain. I need approximately 1 Koror for the transplantation. Can I take Zakat for this? Currently, my expenses are not properly fulfilled from my income.

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

If beyond one’s personal needs, one does not possess the value of the Nisab (i.e. 52.5 tola of silver), and he is also not a Seyyed (i.e. a descendant of the Holy Prophetﷺ), then in that case he can receive Zakat to the extent needed.
