Kidney Problem and Fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I’m a recent revert Muslim lady and this is my first Ramadan. I’m suffering from a kidney problem and if I dont take water all day it could get worse. I want to keep fast so tell me: can I just keep the fast with food and take water only? Is there such a method of fasting?

A: If you are genuinely unable to stay without water for the duration  you are required to fast, and there is no hope for you to be cured from this condition, then you will have to pay the fidya for every missed fast. It is not possible to fast whilst anything passes the throat.

And Allah knows best
