Shaving the head after the performance of Hajj and Umra

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

What is the law as per Shari’ah for shaving the head after the performance of Hajj and Umra? Is it Farzh or Sunnat? How much hair is necessary to be shaved for men and women? And what is it’s (i.e shaving the head) proper time? And please inform me of the law as per Shari’ah for if someone doesn’t shave his head after performing Hajj or Umra. Will such a person’s Hajj or Umar be valid?

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

It is Wajid (essential) for a man to shave his entire head or at least one quarter of his hair or even trim off the amount of hair that equals to one third of a finger (if his hair is long enough), and for women to trim off the amount of hair that equals to one third of a finger after stoning the Jam’arat if performing Hajje-Iftad, after Qurbani if performing Hajje-Tamatu’ or Hajje-Qiran and after Sa’i if performing Umra. If someone does any such actions that is contrary to Ihran without shaving or trimming ones hair, then he will have to pay Dam in accordance to that action.
And Allah knows best.
