A person carries the Qura’an Majeed and swears

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

What do the respected Ulema say about this matter? A person carries the Qura’an Majeed and swears that he would not do a certain work and the same person after a little while does the same work what he swore not to do. What will be the Kaffara that has to be performed in excuse of this? Jazakallah.

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

If the person carried Qur’an Majeed in his hand and said that “I swear that I do not do this work” then undoubtedly the oath is executed and by doing against it he breaks the oath and, as a result, Kaffara (compensation) becomes incumbent on it. Compensation for breaking the oath is to feed completely 10 (ten) poor people with morning and evening meals or to clothe ten poor people. If not capable of doing so then he should observe fasting for 3 consecutive days.
