Du’as to recite for protection against Jinn and black magic

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

Please provide du’as I can recite for protection against Jinn and black magic.

Answer

Among the du’as for protection against Jinn, and other harmful things are the following:

1) Recitation of Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq and Surah Nas, blowing on the hands and thereafter rubbing them on oneself. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would do this when ill and before retiring to bed.

(Refer: Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 4439 and 5017, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2192)

Surah Falaq and Surah Nas were revealed after Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was bewitched by a Jew. Jibril (‘alayhis salam) had instructed Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to recite these Surahs.

(Refer: Fathul Bari, Hadith: 5763, vol. 10 pg. 230. Also see here)

2) Reciting and practising upon Surah Baqarah. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that those involved in witchcraft cannot confront this Surah.

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 804. See here and here)

3) Reciting the Manzil. See the full text of this Hadith here

4) Recite thrice in the morning and evening for protection against all harm:

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3388)

5) Recite the following du’a for protection against magicians:

Amsayna wa amsal mulku wal hamdu lillah, a’udhu billahil ladhi yumsikus sama’a an taqa’a ‘alal ardi illa bi idhnihi min sharri ma khalaqa wa dhara’a wa bara’a

(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 4303. See here)

6) Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) used to seek Allah Ta’ala’s protection for Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) with the following words:

A’udhu bi kalimatillahit taammah min kulli shaytaniw wa haammah wa min kulli ‘aynil laammah

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3371. See here)

7) Eating seven ‘Ajwah dates.

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever eats seven ‘Ajwah in the morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on that day”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5445-5768 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2047. See here)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
