Salutations [durud] at the grave of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

Question

What is the authenticity of the following narration?

من صلى علي عند قبري وكل الله بها ملكا يبلغني، وكفي أمر دنياه، وآخرته، وكنت له يوم القيامة شفيعا أو شهيدا

Answer

This narration is recorded in Amali of Ibn Sam’un, Shu’abul Iman and other Hadith collections with an extremely weak chain.

(Amali Ibn Sam’un, Hadith: 255, Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 1481. Refer: Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 4 pg. 263, number: 7679. Also see: Al Qawlul Badi’. pg. 325 and 329)

‘Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has cited corroborating narrations for certain parts of the above Hadith. ‘Allamah ‘Abdul Hayy Al Lakhnawi (rahimahullah) has also affirmed this.

(Al La-Alil Masnu’ah, vol. 1 pg. 258-260, Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 1 pg. 335, Al Atharul Marfu’ah, pg. 46)

Translation

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever sends salutations [durud] by my grave, Allah will appoint an angel to convey it to me. His worldy affairs and affairs of the Hereafter will be suffice and I will intercede or be a witness [in favour] of him on the Day of Qiyamah.”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
