Speak good, you will gain rewards

Question

Kindly translate the following Hadith from Musnadush Shihab:

قولوا خيرا تغنموا، واسكتوا عن شر تسلموا

Answer

The translation is as follows:

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Speak good, you will gain [reward] and keep silent from speaking evil, you will be safe.”

Reference:

This narration appears in Musnadush Shihab as you have mentioned, on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah ibn Samit (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Musnadush Shihab, Hadith: 666)

Imams Hakim and Tabarani (rahimahumallah) have recorded these words as part of a longer Hadith, also on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah ibn Samit (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 286-287, Al Mu’jamul Kabir; Refer: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 299)

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared this version authentic and ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) concurs. ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators of Tabarani credible.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
