Anas’s (radiyallahu ‘anhu) fatwa regarding making up missed fasts of Ramadan

Can you confirm the source of this verdict of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu)?

عن أنس (رضي الله عنه) قال: إن شئت فاقض رمضان متتابعا وإن شئت متفرقا

If you wish, you could make up the missed fasts of Ramadan consecutively or separately.

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has recorded this ruling of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu). The narrators are reliable.

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah: 9208. Also see: As Sunanul Kubra of Imam Bayhaqi, vol. 4 pg. 258/259)

Note: I have merely answered your question regarding the narration in question. This should therefore not be viewed as a Fiqh ruling/fatwa. Kindly contact a Mufti/Darul Ifta for a fatwa on this matter.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
