The full Hadith regarding ‘Do not desire to meet the enemy, rather ask Allah for protection’

Is this narration authentic?

Answer

Imams Bukhari and Muslim (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith in their Sahih. The Hadith is therefore authentic.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2965-2966, 3024-3025, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1742)

Translation

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “O people! Do not desire to meet the enemy, rather ask Allah for protection. But when you do confront them, then persevere and remember that Jannah lies in the shadow of the swords. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then said:

Allahumma munzilal kitab wa mujriyas sahab wa hazimal ahzab ihzimhum wan surna ‘alayhim (O Allah! Revealer of the Quran, Mover of the clouds and One who defeats of the groups, defeat them and assist us against them)”
