A deed that protects one from the anger of Allah Ta’ala

Is this narration reliable?

A person asked Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) what will protect me from Allah Ta’ala’s anger? Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied, ‘Do not become angry’

Answer

Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. The narration is as follows:

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), “What will protect me/distance me from the anger of Allah”? Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Do not become angry”

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2 pg. 175. Declared authentic by Imam Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 296)
