Carrying out good deeds protects one from an evil death

Can you translate the following Hadith and provide the authenticity?

صنائع المعروف تقي مصارع السوء وصدقة السر تطفئ غضب الرب وصلة الرحم تزيد في العمر

Answer

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Carrying out good deeds protects one from an evil death, giving charity secretly extinguishes the Anger of Allah and joining family ties increases one’s lifespan”

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir of Imam Tabarani, Hadith: 8014)

‘Allamah Mundhiri, Haythami and Sakhawi (rahimahumullah) have declared the chain sound.

(Targhib, vol. 2 pg. 30, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 3 pg. 115 and Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 618)

See here for one meaning of ‘increase in lifespan.’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
