The complete du’a that is recited after adhan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I was trying to find a reference for the famous du’a that is recited after the adhan. I have heard that only part of the du’a is in Sahih Bukhari. Please provide the reference for the entire du’a.

Answer

The popular wording of the du’a in question is a follows:

اَللّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعوَةِ التَّامَّةِ، وَالصَّلَاةِ القَائِمَةِ، آتِ مُحَمَّدًانِ الوَسِيلَةَ وَالفَضِيلَةَ، وَابعَثهُ مَقَامًا مَّحمُودَانِ الَّذِي وَعَدتَهُ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخلِفُ المِيعِاد

Allahumma Rabba hadhi hid da’watit tammah was salatil qa-imah ati Muhammadanil wasilata wal fadilah, wab ‘ath hu maqamam mahmuda nil-ladhi wa’adtahu, innaka la tukhliful mi’ad.

Translation:

O Allah, Rabb of this perfect call and established prayer. Grant Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) the intercession and favour and raise him to the honoured station You have promised him. Verily you do not neglect promises.

The words found in the narration of Sahih Bukhari, (Hadith: 614) are same as the above, besides the highlighted part which is in Sunanul Kubra of Bayhaqi (vol.1 pg.410) with the same chain as in Bukhari. That completes the full du’ a.

There is no harm in reciting it as one full du’ a.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
