Authenticity of the du’a: O Turner of the Hearts (Ya Muqallibal Qulub)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question:

I am interested in attaining the Arabic text and English translation of a Hadith which mentions a du’a of the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam). It begins with “O Turner of hearts” and mentions keeping the heart firm in obedience. I would also like to know which Hadith collections this du’a can be found in.

Answer:

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) used to recite the following supplication in abundance:

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

‘Ya Muqallibal qulub, thabbit qalbi ‘ala dinik.’

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2140)

Translation: O Turner of hearts, keep my heart steadfast on your Din.

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has classified this Hadith as hasan (sound).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
