Meaning of Imam Tirmidhi’s statement in Kitabul ‘Ilal

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

In Kitabul ‘ilal, Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) says:

وقد بينا هذا على وجهه في الكتاب الذى فيه الموقوف

What does ‘على وجهه’ mean?

Answer

‘على وجهه’ in this case, literally means as is/exactly.

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) mentions the views and rulings of the famous Fuqaha and Muhaddithun in his Sunan without citing the chain of narrators to them. In Al ‘ilal, he mentions all these chains.

However, he does not mention which chain exactly was for which view and so forth.

In ‘Kitabul Mawquf’ which seems to be a bigger book than Sunan Tirmidhi, he mentions these views with their relevant corresponding chain of transmission.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
