Nabi’s (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) du’a for Abu Hurayrah and his mother

Is this Hadith reliable?

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2491)

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “My mother was a polytheist and I would invite her to accept Islam. Once when I invited her, she mentioned something [unpleasant] regarding Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) which I disliked. I went crying to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and said, ‘O Rasulullah! I invite my mother to accept Islam and she always refuses. Today, I invited her and she mentioned something unpleasant regarding you. Make du’a that Allah guide my mother.’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, O Allah! guide Abu Hurayra’s mother.’

I left, pleased with the du’a of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). When I came [home] and went to the door, it was locked. My mother heard my footsteps and said, ‘Abu Hurayrah, wait there.’ I heard the sound of water. She took a bath and put on an upper garment and covered her hair. She opened the door and said, ‘O Abu Hurayrah! I bear witness to the fact that there is no deity but Allah and Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said, ‘I went back to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) crying out of joy.’ I said, ‘O Rasulullah! Be happy, for Allah has answered your du’a and has guided my mother. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) praised Allah, extolled Him and said some good words.

I said, O Rasulullah! Make du’a that Allah make my mother and I beloved to the Believers and that he make the Believers beloved to us. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) made this du’a. Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said, ‘No believer was ever born who heard of me and who saw me except that he loved me.’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
