The reward for passing away far from one’s birthplace

Is this Hadith authentic?

There is a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to the effect that when a Muslim passes away a distance from where he/she was born, Allah Ta’ala gives them a place in Jannah equivalent to the distance.

Answer

Yes it is.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) says, “A man who was born in Madinah passed away in Madinah. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said ‘If only he passed away somewhere other than his birthplace [i.e. If only he was born out of Madinah and passed away in Madinah].’ Someone asked ‘And why is that O Rasulullah?’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied, ‘When a person passes away somewhere other than his birthplace, a [place] will be measured for him in Jannah [as large as the distance] from the place where he was born to the place where he passed away.”

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.

This could mean, that this amount of added space will be given to him in Jannah, as is the apparent meaning.

However, it could also mean that this will be granted to him in his grave.
