Offering the four sunnah before Zuhr without any interval

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Can you please provide a Hadith about the four rak’ahs Sunnah before the fard of Zuhr.

My habit is that I pray first the four Sunnah then the four fard. Thereafter I offer two rak’ahs Sunnah.

Answer

Sayyidatuna ‘Aishah (radiyallahu’anha) that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) would never omit offering four rak’ats before Zuhr.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1182)

The apparent meaning of this is that these rak’ats were offered without any interval.

This is further supported by the following:

1.  Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu’anhu) said: ‘The four rak’ats before Zuhr, [should be offered] with no salam in between, besides a tashahhud [after two rak’ats].’

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 5996. Also see Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 4806, 4815, and 4816)

2. Imam Tabari (rahimahullah) states that offering four rak’ats before Zuhr was the more frequent practice of Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam)

(Fathul Bari and ‘Umdatul Qari, Hadith: 1182)

Your habit is correct.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
