The reason we walk briskly only during the first three rounds of Tawaf

What is the meaning if ‘illal ibqa-u ‘alayhim’ mean in the following narration of Sahih Muslim?

ولم يمنعه أن يأمرهم أن يرملوا الأشواط كلها، إلا الإبقاء عليهم

Answer

Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim (rahimahumallah) have recorded this statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Sahih Bukhari, 1602, Sahih Muslim, 1266)

Translation

Had it not been for his compassion/kindness towards them, he would have commanded them to walk fast [make ramal] for every one of the [circuits of Tawaf]

(Refer: Al Minhaj of ‘Allamah Nawawi, Hadith: 3048 and Fathul Bari, Hadith: 1602)

‘Al Ibqa’ means kindness/compassion.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
