Answer

This narration has been recorded with a few chains. However, ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has declared the text unreliable (munkarun jiddan). He further says, This Hadith is unauthentic (ghayru sahih).

(Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 10 pg. 290. Refer: Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 4 pg. 192, number: 7436, Lisanul Mizan, vol. 7 pg. 316, number: 7112, Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 4689)

The Hadith in question should therefore not be quoted.

On the contrary, there are Hadiths which mention that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) would walk briskly. ‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has cited one such narration. Shaykh Ahmad Siddiq Al Ghumari has also cited a few of these narrations.

(Refer: Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 560 and Al Mudawi, vol. 4 pg. 151-153, Hadith: 1982. Also see: Kashful Khafa, Hadith: 1472)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
