A recital for protection

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by

Is this Hadith authentic?

The Prophet said,

‘Whoever recites 4 verses from the first part of Surah al Baqarah, the verse of the Throne, two verses after the verse of the Throne and three verses from the last part of Surah al Baqarah,

Shaytan would never come near him or the members of his family on that day, and nothing he despises would come near him or the members of his family, and never are these verses recited over a madman without him regaining his consciousness’

This is recorded in the following primary Hadith sources as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu’anhu) with varied wordings:

Sunan Darimi, hadith: 3648, Al-Mu’jamul Kabir of Tabarani, hadith: 8673 & Fadailul Quran of Ibnud Durays, hadith: 166 & 179.

The narrators are reliable, but for an interruption before Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud. It is therefore weak, but suitable for the purpose of encouragement (i.e, targhib).
