The intelligent one is he who subjugates his nafs and carries out deeds which will benefit him after death

Is this Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The intelligent person is the one who subjugates his soul/takes account of himself, and works for what is after death and the incapable is the one who follows his desires and thereafter entertains hopes in [the mercy] of Allah”

Answer

Imams Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Shaddad ibn Aws (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith sound (hasan).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
