Munkar/Nakir and Mubashhir/Bashir?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Are the Angels Munkar and Nakir المنکر والنکیر also called Mubashhir and Nadhir مبشر و نذیر ?

Answer

I haven’t seen these names in any Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam).

However, Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has cited that some [Shafi’i] ‘Ulama have mentioned: The names of the two angels who will quiz the sinners as: Munkar and Nakir, whilst the two angels who will question an [upright] believer are called: Mubashhir and Bashir.
