Not making an effort to rectify one’s faults is among the greatest of calamities

Who is this statement attributed to and could you mention the reference?

من أعظم المصائب للرجل أن يعلم من نفسه تقصيرا ثم لا يبالي ولا يحزن عليه

Answer

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded this as the statement of Imam ‘Abdullah ibnul Mubarak (rahimahullah).

(Shu’abul Iman: 867)

Translation

Among the greatest tragedies for a man is that he knows of some deficiency/shortcoming within himself but doesn’t show any concern [to rectify it] nor does it cause him grief.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
