Did Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) bury his daughter alive before Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is the following authentic:

Hazrat Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) buried many of his daughters alive in the days of ignorance

Answer

I couldn’t locate this story in a primary source.

However there is another similar incident that is reported by Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) about another Sahabi (radiyallahu’anhu) that buried his daughter alive and mentioned this to Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam).

(See Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Takwir, Ayah: 8)

It is possible that someone mixed it up and thought that Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) was the one who buried, whereas he was only the narrator of the incident.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
