Caring for daughters without showing preferential treatment

I have read the Hadith on your website regarding caring properly for daughters.

Is there any Hadith which also mentions an added condition of not preferring other children over one’s daughters in Hadith?

Answer

Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) has recorded a narration which has this condition.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever has a daughter [or a close female relative], does not bury her alive, does not treat her with contempt and does not favour his other children over her -i.e. her brothers-, Allah will grant him entry into Jannah”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5103. Refer: Sharh Ibn Raslan, Hadith: 5146)

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs.

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 177. Also see Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah’s -hafizahullah- footnotes on Musannaf, Hadith: 25944)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
