ثلاثٌ من أخلاقِ النُّبوَّةِ تعجيلُ الإفطارِ وتأخيرُ السُّحورِ ووضعُ اليمينِ على الشِّمالِ في الصَّلاةِ تحت السرۃ
Allamah Ibn Hazam (rahimahullah) quoted this narrated through Hazrat Anas (radiyallahu’anhu). Shaykh Awammah (hafizahullah) has also quoted this in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (3 / 319 )
What is original source of this specific transmission which contains words ‘تحت السرۃ‘ and what is its full chain of transmission?
Answer
The Hadith of Anas (radiyallahu’anhu) is reported with a full chain by Imam Ibn ‘Adiy (rahimahullah).
(Al-Kamil, vol.3 pg.275)
However, there is no mention of تحت السرة in this version.
I have not been able to locate the mention of تحت السرة in the narration of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu’anhu) in any primary Hadith source.
Although this [placing the hands beneath the navel] has been reported by other Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum).
(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 3959)
A point to bear in mind though is that Ibn Hazam (rahimahullah) had quoted this while citing proofs for the issue of placing the right palm over the left, and that he quoted it with the words of surety (sighatul jazm). This could indicate to the chain being suitable according to him…
