Sayyiduna ‘Ali slaughtering on behalf of Nabi (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) slaughtered two sheep for Udhiyah, one on behalf of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) and the other for himself, he was then asked with regards to this, he said Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) commanded me with this so I never left it out.

What is the ruling of this Hadith?

Answer

This is recorded with a weak chain in Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 2783, Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1495 and Musnad Ahmad, vol.1 pg.107.

Despite its weakness, there is no harm in one offering Udhiyah/Qurbani on behalf of others, as Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has stated this to be the view of some of the Scholars.

Also see Hashiyatus Sindhi ‘alal Musnad, and Kitabul Haj in Sahih Bukhari, before Hadith: 1709.

Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) himself also slaughtered on behalf of his Ummah.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
