Answer

The Tabi’i, Ja’far ibn ‘Abdillah reported that Sayyiduna Khalid ibn Walid (radiyallahu’anhu) had lost his hat during the battle of Yarmuk. He asked the people to search for it to no avail. After the second attempt it was found, but it was a worn out hat.

Sayyiduna Khalid (radiyallahu’anhu) then explained to the people:

‘When Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) performed ‘Umrah and shaved his hair, the people (Sahabah) rushed to take the strands from the side of his blessed head. I preceded them in taking strands from his forelock which I placed in this hat. I achieved victory in every battle in which I had this hat.’
