Is It Permissible to Enter a Public Bathroom Whilst Carrying Islamic Material in a Closed Bag?

Question: Assalamu ‘alaykum,

Is it permissible to enter a public bathroom whilst carrying islamic material in a closed bag?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

It is best to avoid when reasonably possible as the basis is having veneration for religious books and the like.

However, when difficult or unreasonable, it would be permitted to enter the bathroom with such items covered up or away in a bag, for example.

Allah Most High states, “That [is the command]! And whosoever venerates the symbols of Allah: indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.” [22:32]
