Warning against touching a strange woman

Kindly provide the reference and authenticity of the following Hadith:

“That a needle is inserted in your head is better than you touching a woman who is not permissible for you to touch”

Answer

Sayyiduna Ma’qil ibn Yasar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“It is better that a metal needle be thrust in your head, rather than you touching a strange woman”

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 486,487, vol. 20 and Shu’abul Iman with slight addition in the wording, Hadith: 5072)

‘Allamah Mundhiri and Hafiz Haythami (rahimahumallah) have declared the narrators in Tabarani as reliable.

(Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 39 and Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 4 pg. 326)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
