Beautiful words for recital at the beginning of Salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I have heard this beautiful Hadith and wanted to know when are we supposed to say these words?

It is narrated that Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “While we were praying with Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam), a man from the crowd said:

Allahu akbar kabiran wal hamdu lillahi kathiran wa subhanallahi bukratan wa asilan

[Allah is indeed the Greatest, all praises are due to Him, many praises, and all glory is His alone, morning and evening.]

Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said: Who is the one who said these words? A person from the crowd said: It is me O Messenger of Allah. The Prophet said: They amazed me! They caused the doors of heaven to be opened. Ibn `Umar said: I have never abandoned these words since I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) say that.”

Answer

This Hadith has been quoted by the Hadith masters as recitals between the first takbir (Takbir Tahrimah) and the recital of Surah Fatihah.

In Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1357, ‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) has entitled the chapter for this Hadith as: Chapter on what to recite between the first takbir and the qirat.

In Sunan Nasai, Hadith: 885-886, it appears in: Chapter regarding what recital to commence the salah with.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
