Is the following Hadith authentic?
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Illuminate your homes with prayer and the recitation of the Quran”
Answer:
Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu). The chain consists of an extremely weak narrator.
(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 1875. Refer: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 9291)
There are other Hadiths which have described Salah at home to be a form of light.
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1375)
Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded a Hadith which states, ‘Salah is light [nur]’
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 223)
Similarly, Allah Ta’ala has described the Quran as a light (nur) in the Quran itself.
(Surah Al Maidah, Verse: 15)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
