Do not be anxious, whatever is predestined will occur

What is the status of this narration:

لا تكثر همك، ما يقدر يكن، وما ترزق يأتك

Answer

This narration is recorded in several Hadith collections with a weak chain:

  1. Al Faraj Ba’dash Shiddah, 19
  2. At Targhib Wat Tarhib of Abul Qasim Al Isbahani, 2306
  3. Shu’abul Iman, 1144
  4. Tarikh Dimashq, vol. 13 pg. 356

The narration is suitable to quote.

Translation

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) told Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu):

“Do not worry/be anxious, whatever is destined will occur and whatever sustenance is due, will come to you”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
