Sunnah Prayers of Jummuah Salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Assalaamu Alaikum

1) Is it more virtous to pray the Sunnah before & after Jumu’ah at the Masjid or at home? What is recommended?

2) Would first praying the 4 Raka’at Sunnah and then leaving towards the Masjid count as delaying going for Jumu’ah? Would one be deprived from the benefits of going early to the Masjid (for Jumu’ah)?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhum

1) It all depends on an individual; for some it is better to pray at home since they might get pride etc whilst praying in a Masjid, especially if they perform long rakāts. Others however, feel a bit lazy at home. Hence, they should rather pray the Sunnats in the Masjid.

2) No, as long as one is in the Masjid well before the second Adhān, it will not count as delaying. However, one should try to come as early as possible for Jummu’ah, since the ealier a person comes, the more reward he receives.
