Old Mutual superfund

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I hope and pray that when you receive this communique, that you are enjoying the best if health and spiritual well-being, إن شاء الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ.

We’ve recently been requested by our company to complete beneficiary forms for a group cover that the company has taken on our behalf. The group cover is with old mutual called the superfund, and they’ve chosen life Assurance and death benefit. I’ve made contact with old mutual but I wasn’t completely satisfied with the answer provided as the answer was coming from a non-Muslim.

Is this fund permissible? I’ve informed the company that if the answer to it is negative , that I do not want to be associated with this fund in any way.

I’ve attached a link to details regarding the fund.

Wa ʿAlaykumus Salām Wa Raḥmatullāhī Wa Barakātuh

We hope and pray that you are well, and sincerely request your Duas.

We have tried our best in researching the Old Mutual SuperFund and would advise that you refrain from it since it contains elements of Riba (usury).

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
