Cutting of nails.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. What is the ruling on the cutting of nails? I have read that we should cut our nails within forty days, is this true?

A. Cutting the nails regularly is part of the teachings in Islam, and one is required to avoid keeping them to a length where impurities and dirtiness get beneath them.

It is Sunnah to clip the nails within forty days. This is based upon the hadith of Anas (RA) who said that a time limit of not more than forty nights/days has been given regarding clipping the nails’. (Muslim, Tirmizi, Ahmad, Ibn Maj ah).

And Allah knows best.
