KIDNEY STONE AND FASTING

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

QUESTION:

As Salamu Alaikum,

A person has had a kidney stone shattered recently before Ramadan and is told by the doctor that they must drink lots of water.
Is it permissible for them to not fast?

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

In this case, if the person is required to drink water during the day to help in getting out the kidney stone, then it will be permissible to delay the fast by not observing it in Ramadhan, and make up for it afterwards.

If however, the person can drink sufficient water after sunset until the break of dawn, which will help in getting out the kidney stone, then this should be done, and the person should observe the fast during the day.
