Doubt of Kufr

Question

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Is it kufr to repent of having done or say something halal?

For example if a person says « I repent that I have said “why ?” » did he commit an act of kufr.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

May Almighty Allah alleviate you from the predicament you are faced with. Aameen.

Brother in Islam,

At the outset, one should understand, that one cannot commit kufr unless one negates the fundamentals of Islam. Allah has made following Islam easy. One needs to be moderate and not go overboard. The statement in reference does not constitute Kufr.

We observe that you suffer from severe whisperings of Shaytaan (Waswasa).

Shaytaan being our enemy will employ different tactics to accomplish his mission of misleading us and making us lose our Imaan (faith). He is our open enemy and will try to mislead us.

We advise you not to pay any attention to the whisperings or insinuations you face. You need to weaken these whisperings by learning to ignore them. The wasaawis are like the smoke. Ignore the wasaawis and work through them even though your work might feel obscured. Do not get caught up with the trick of Shaytan.

Whenever any doubt/waswasa arises, tell yourself that your Imaan is intact and valid no matter what Shaytani whisperings enter the mind. As a remedy, tell yourself that every action of mine is valid irrespective of the evil whisperings. This may be difficult for the first few times, but it will become much easier after effort and hard work.

Keeping busy in remembrance of Allah Ta’ala will allow you to ignore any obsessive thoughts you might have and, therefore, you will be less inclined to give them the time.

We also advise you to also seek medical assistance and Psychological therapy. This has proven to be helpful and may eliminate OCD.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
